What the I/O Connector adds
The Paxton10 I/O Connector is an expansion module that adds inputs and outputs to the combined access-control and video-management platform. Used with Triggers and Actions, it allows a configured system event to cause connected equipment to respond automatically.
That can create practical workflows beyond simply releasing a door. Depending on the wider design, a token presentation, door event or granted access could be used as the starting point for a carefully controlled action involving other electrical equipment.

Where automated actions can add value
Good automation removes a clear operational step without creating an unsafe dependency. Possible uses need to be assessed against the connected equipment, fire strategy, fail-safe behaviour and what should happen during a network or controller fault.
Before adding a trigger, define the event, desired response, authorised override and evidence needed afterwards. This prevents a convenient idea becoming a difficult-to-support chain of hidden rules.

Better handling for multiple time zones
Paxton says v4.9 SR6 improves support for multi-site or multi-subnet installations operating across different time zones. Events, reports and device information can reflect the correct local time for each site.
This is particularly useful where a central security or facilities team investigates activity across regions. Clear local timestamps reduce uncertainty when comparing an access event with local CCTV, alarms or operational records.
Encrypted credentials and enrolment
Paxton introduced encrypted credentials in v4.9 SR1 to increase resistance to unauthorised card or token duplication. Paxton states that its compatible Universal desktop reader is required to enrol the new credentials on new and existing Paxton10 systems.
A move to encrypted credentials should include more than purchasing readers and tokens. Plan enrolment, replacement of older credentials, exceptions, lost-card handling and the period in which two credential types may need to coexist.
Should an existing site adopt the new capabilities?
The answer depends on the current Paxton10 version, hardware, risk profile and operating need. A multi-site organisation may value the time-zone improvements immediately, while another site may get more benefit from a planned credential migration or one specific I/O workflow.
Review the current estate and software release notes before changing a live system. The best upgrade is tied to a defined outcome, includes a tested route and leaves the support documentation clearer than it was before.
