Where it may help
Hikvision describes AcuSeek as text-based video search for people, vehicles and supported objects. A description of clothing or a vehicle may help an operator narrow a large set of recordings. The available functions and scale vary across the product range.
For a site team, the benefit to test is how quickly an authorised operator can find a useful clip compared with the existing playback tools. A demonstration using your normal viewing workflow is more informative than a broad promise of AI accuracy.
Start with compatibility
Record the current recorder model, camera models, firmware and management software. Ask the supplier to identify which functions would be supported by that exact combination. Do not assume that a firmware update alone adds AcuSeek to an older recorder.
- Confirm supported cameras, channels and search functions.
- Check local and remote operation separately.
- Ask about software, storage and licence requirements.
- Agree whether existing footage can be searched or new indexing is needed.
Run a representative trial
Choose agreed, non-sensitive test scenarios across the lighting and distances found on the site. Compare expected events with returned results, including missed events and irrelevant matches. Check that the operator can still use ordinary playback and export.
Use a human review step before drawing conclusions. A result that resembles a description is not a reliable identification of a person, and an empty search does not prove that an event did not happen.
Keep the operating rules clear
Decide who can search, what purposes are authorised and how searches and exports are reviewed. Assess any change to the use of personal information before enabling new analytics. Search convenience should not determine the site's retention period.
An initial assessment can establish what is already installed and which options are worth testing. Equipment selection should follow that assessment.
